In 1951, Life Magazine
held a photo contest for "young" photographers under the age
of 31. Among the top winners were three women including Regina Fisher
who made the cover. The other two, Ruth Orkin and Esther Bubley, both
New Yorkers, became well known later in their careers. These young women photographers were in good company. Among the male winners were Robert Frank, Dennis Stock, and Elliot Erwitt all of whom became famous, at least among photographers. |
