Barbies as Photographer

Over the years Barbie and her girlfriends have had numerous cameras. In a very few cases, photography was the essential selling point of the outfit but in most, cameras were merely included as extra fashion accessories, like shoes and purses. Here are some highlights of Barbie's photographic career.

The oldest and hardest to find Barbie camera came with "Fashion Editor" in 1965. This oufit consisted of a turquoise suit dress with a sheath skirt and a matching pillbox hat. Barbie presumably carried a camera to take pictures at fashion shows.

The camera however, is rather bulky hollow plastic without a hand or neck strap to attach it to the doll so it must have been awkward for Barbie to carry. The outfit shown here is reproduced from a 1995 Hallmark card. The original Fashion Editor outfit worn on an early version of Barbie exists only in serious Barbie collections.
